Film Stars Attend Our February Movie/Potluck

Our Movie/Potluck in February was far from "just" being an ordinary night.  Those in attendance got a special treat - being able to personally meet the stars, Ed Gunawan and Keo Woolford, of the short film JUST.    Just is about the after-sex acquaintance of two strangers who met online. As the two men learn more about each other, they discover that a casual hook-up is anything but...  Just recently won the Top 5 Films at the 9th PlanetOut Short Movie Awards.  Ed and Keo also presented their soon to be released short film,  LAUNDROMAT which will be premiering in April.  Both films were well received by A/PGF's members.

Watch for an interview with these stars in an upcoming issue of our newsletter.  If you missed the film, Click here to see - JUST

Appearing from left to right: Keo Woolford, star of “I Land,” “Just,” and “Laundromat.” Center: Steven Lee, A/PGF Vice President.  Edward Gunawan: producer and writer of “Laundromat” and also stars in “Just”

The Good Boy  reviewed by Roy Liebman

A/PGF member Bill Becker has written several plays that have always provided a visual treat for our members. His latest is The Good Boy, a revival of his previously produced "straight" play with several added songs. It presents the story of an adopted teenager thrown out of his home by his foul-mouthed gorgon of a mother without a penny to his name. His wimpy father does not have the courage to stand by him so what's a boy with no prospects---but a great body---to do? Unfortunately there seems little choice but a life of degrading prostitution and drugs.

This is the dilemma of Grady Butler, played by part-time model and dancer Tye Adams, who gives a heartfelt performance. He also shows the appreciative audience all of his very well-developed body, but it is done within the context of the play and not gratuitously. Grady's new "boyfriend" and fellow sex worker also shows the audience one reason why Grady might be interested in him (A HINT: he also takes his clothes off!).

Grady has supportive friends who want to help him but also has to contend with those who continue to drag him down. While he copes with a life he never wanted, he and the other cast members occasionally express themselves through song. Although they are not trained singers they manage to get their emotions across to the audience. The defiant "I Did What I Did", which is reminiscent of  "I Did It My Way", is probably the most effective of the several songs. What happens to this confused boy who is only seeking love? To find the answer, and also to support our fellow A/PGF member, see The Good Boy.

A Little Hollywood History   contributed by Jon Longworth

Here's a few questions to ponder and think about.  If you think you might know any or all of the answers, email them to: jonnieocean@sbcglobal.net Deadline will be Tuesday, March 25th.  I'll summit the answers next month along with the first names of those who answered correctly.
  1. What Academy Award winning actor referred to his penis as his "noble tool"?
  2. Name the actor who while lecturing at the Actors Studio in New York in 1951 was approached by a student, James Dean, who told him," I'm your greatest fan, someday I want to act just like you". The actor took the young Dean back to his apartment and sodomized him.
  3. What actor  for many years lived with and had an ongoing affair with fellow actor Wally Cox who was TV's Mr. Peepers? (There was also a famous photo of him going down on Wally which might still be found from time to time.)
  4. Name the actor who, during his lifetime had brief affairs with many fellow actors including: Laurence Olivier, Montgomery Cliff, Burt Lancaster and John Gielgud.
  5. Who was director Elia Kazan referring to when he told producer Sam Spiegel, "This time Hollywood can no longer delay granting him his overdue Oscar. He sees things as a bisexual, the way an artist should.  He sees things both as a man and a woman"?

Plenty Of Fun In Berlin   submitted by Bill Tom

Two bonus events are in store for the IFW-ICON conventioneers in Berlin.  The weekend before will be the two day street fair and the following Saturday will be Berlin’s pride parade.  The convention is open is anyone and one does not have to be a member of either A/PGF or Long Yang Club.

The two day street fair, held in the Nollendorplatz area, is similar to the West Hollywood area.  This is where most of the gay venues are located.   Along with dozens of information booths and market stalls, there will be a varied range of culinary treats, and entertainment.

The convention will culminate with the pride parade, better known in Europe as Christopher Street Day (CSD).  The parade weaves its way through downtown and up to Brandenburg Gate and thence to the victory monument, where the festivities continues.  There will be continuous entertainment with music, speakers, and dancing until late in the evening.

A plumbing supply company will have a booth with their display of faucets and a Jacuzzi with live models.  As a special attraction, there will be plumbers, in blue coverall but shirtless, spraying the people with a  mist, and who were obviously hired for their muscles.

For more details and registration, go to www.longyandclub.org.  If you’re thinking about a trip to Europe, consider this convention.  The Euro is going up and up, so this may be the time to enjoy Europe while the cost is still reasonable.
