Asian/Pacific Gays and Friends

The International Friendship Conference (IFCON) is an annual gathering hosted over the years by members of the International Friendship Alliance (IFA) and Long Yang Club (LYC), two groups dedicated to providing social activities for gay Asians and their friends.

In 2018, the 29th edition of IFCON will be held in the scenic resort city of Palm Springs, California from August 31st to September 3rd.

Palm Springs has one of the highest per capita LGBT populations in the country. It’s history as a gay oasis in the desert began during Hollywood’s golden age, when it became a getaway for celebrities, both gay and straight, trying to escape the prying eyes of the paparazzi. Actors were restricted from traveling more than 200 miles from Los Angeles during filming, and Palm Springs provided a nearby and laid-back place to relax.

Today Palm Springs is renowned as a vacation and retirement mecca for gays and lesbians. You’ll find numerous bars, clubs, restaurants, resorts and other businesses catering to the gay traveler. The highest concentration of bars is located on Arenas Road east of Indian Canyon Drive, while the Warm Sands neighborhood is home to a number of clothing-optional resorts.

The Coachella Valley is famous for its natural beauty and offers an array of outdoor activities, including biking, golf, hiking, horseback riding, swimming, and tennis in the nearby desert and mountain areas. The city’s mid-century modern architecture and design elements also attract enthusiasts, especially during Modernism Week.  Downtown Palm Springs features a walkable main street with hundreds of art and antique shops, vintage and trendy clothing boutiques and classic and modern home furnishing outlets. Downtown events include a weekly street fair held every Thursday evening.

So please make plans to join us in 2018!
